The kit behind the galleries.
Every match in these galleries is photographed on the same lean, deliberate setup: a Nikon Z6III + NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. Youth soccer is fast, unpredictable, and shot in whatever light the day gives you — this kit is chosen to keep up with all of it.
Nikon Z6III
Fast, reliable autofocus and clean high-ISO files for fast-moving matches in changeable outdoor light.
NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR
The reach to isolate a player from across the pitch, with the flexibility to follow the ball without changing position.
Why this setup for youth soccer
Sideline reach matters more than almost anything else. A long telephoto lets me isolate a single player from across the pitch, hold a clean background, and stay out of the run of play — so the photographs feel intentional rather than grabbed.
The rest is about reliability under pressure: dependable autofocus on a breakaway, clean files when the light flattens out under cloud cover, and a body I can run all day without thinking about it. The goal is never to show off the gear — it’s to disappear behind it so the moment comes through.
